EC 201: Introductory Microeconomics

Undergraduate course, University of Oregon, Department of Economics, 2021

This class introduces students to the basic approach used by economists to analyze human behavior, focusing on the basic supply-and-demand model. Students are expected to finish the course with a working knowledge of basic economic concepts, which they can then use to form simple models for much of the human behavior we observe in the world.

I initially taught this course as a primarily in-person course beginning in Winter term 2020. The end of that term was disrupted by COVID-19, and I finished teaching the course online, including administering the final exam. My more recent version of the course began in Spring term 2021, and was designed from the ground up to be taught online using Zoom breakout rooms for in-class discussion, exams designed to preserve academic integrity when administered online, and other techniques to preserve student involvement during the pandemic.
